The Latest and the Greatest

It's been hectic lately. I had my first test of the year this morning in Genetics. We were all dreading it, as the prof had missed 2 of the 5 scheduled lectures (he got stuck in Wisconsin). He decided to keep the first test where it was, today. Understandable, because the schedule is tight. So what's the bad news, you ask? I have had to wake up for 8 AM's less frequently with him gone, and the test should be cake, right? Only three lectures worth of material, right?

No.

We were responsible for a good amount of material that he didn't even attempt to cover in class. He just said, "You will have to know this." At least he cut out some of the chapter for the time being, but still, it sucked.

So last night, we all stayed up until about 2 AM or later studying for this exam. Needless to say, we were all exhausted come wake-up time. Damn you, 8 AM's. The test was cake, except for one thing. He included material on it that was most definitely NOT part of the assigned reading. It was part of the chapter that he explicitly told us NOT to read! Luckily enough, I knew all that information from my Cell and Molec class, so it was easy for me. Sorry to say that not everyone was as lucky, and some ended up pretty screwed. I'm sure there will be some discussion about that.

Next was Analytical Chem. A pretty boring class, but I lived. At least I got the homework done (thanks Megan).

I crushed AChem lab. As in, 0.313% relative uncertainty in my standardization values. Kick ass!

Then, probably the best news of the day - I got a random call from home. So I'm asking myself, "What could this be about?" Come to find out that I've won a scholarship (the Engel Award) from the faculty of the Biochemistry department. Score! I guess I'm no longer allowed to complain that I've never won a scholarship...oh well. No loss in that one.
