Car Damage Posted by Picasa

A Lot Going On...

Boy oh boy, what a weekend. Things started off awesome, took a couple of turns for the worse, then some fun, then another potentially bad situation.

Let's start from the beginning...

Friday - AXS event. I got picked to be a big brother, and my little is freakin' awesome. We hung out with the Brothers and had a good time. Definitely some funny moments from the night, but not all of my readers are privy to them so - HA!

Saturday started well. I got a lot of work done early on in the day, called home, and found out some bad news. My grandmother (Dad's mom) was unexpectedly hospitalized on Friday with fluid in her lungs and an improperly functioning heart valve. So I was really down when it came time for the game. We got there late thanks to the stupid bus driver, but managed to see the flyover. Missed Sandman, which was a disappointment, but there will be other games. Our seats are awesome and the Hokies crushed Ohio. 45-0 baby!

The time after the game was spent hanging out with Skye and Diane. I taught Diane two chords on the guitar, with which we were able to jam to some Jack Johnson and John Mayer. It got late, and we were hungry, so we decided to go to Wendy's. This is the worst news of the night. When Skye said, "Now, don't freak out..." upon getting to my car, I knew it was bad. Some asshole had taken a baseball bat to the passenger side of my car. Sheared off the mirror, scratched the hell out of the paint, and dented the pillar and upper door panel. We called the cops, and the officer filed a report, but admitted there was little he could do. There was another car damaged in a similar way, but far less extensively. His/her mirror was ripped off, but it was clean, with no real damage to the car. It'll be an easy fix for that person, but not so much for me.

Today, church was great because Fr. Richard was back! He has a meeting with the bishop regarding his fitness to return to the Newman Community, and I'm in the process of composing an email to the bishop on his behalf. I figure it can't hurt, and Fr. Richard has been the most influential priest in my life, no questions asked. I hope he'll be allowed to stay...So church was a positive event tempered by a potentially negative ending.

The pledges made their books today. They seem like a great class - they have great attitudes and they gel really well. Congrats to my little on winning VP of the class - Laura rocks!

Anyway, now I have two tests to study for. I guess I should get to that...

The Latest and the Greatest

It's been hectic lately. I had my first test of the year this morning in Genetics. We were all dreading it, as the prof had missed 2 of the 5 scheduled lectures (he got stuck in Wisconsin). He decided to keep the first test where it was, today. Understandable, because the schedule is tight. So what's the bad news, you ask? I have had to wake up for 8 AM's less frequently with him gone, and the test should be cake, right? Only three lectures worth of material, right?

No.

We were responsible for a good amount of material that he didn't even attempt to cover in class. He just said, "You will have to know this." At least he cut out some of the chapter for the time being, but still, it sucked.

So last night, we all stayed up until about 2 AM or later studying for this exam. Needless to say, we were all exhausted come wake-up time. Damn you, 8 AM's. The test was cake, except for one thing. He included material on it that was most definitely NOT part of the assigned reading. It was part of the chapter that he explicitly told us NOT to read! Luckily enough, I knew all that information from my Cell and Molec class, so it was easy for me. Sorry to say that not everyone was as lucky, and some ended up pretty screwed. I'm sure there will be some discussion about that.

Next was Analytical Chem. A pretty boring class, but I lived. At least I got the homework done (thanks Megan).

I crushed AChem lab. As in, 0.313% relative uncertainty in my standardization values. Kick ass!

Then, probably the best news of the day - I got a random call from home. So I'm asking myself, "What could this be about?" Come to find out that I've won a scholarship (the Engel Award) from the faculty of the Biochemistry department. Score! I guess I'm no longer allowed to complain that I've never won a scholarship...oh well. No loss in that one.
